seek water, and there is none;
their tongue is parched with thirst.
I the Lord will respond to them.
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.Isaiah 41:17
It is so easy to feel abandoned by God when you've prayed and prayed, meditated, recited every positive affirmation you can possibly recite, and STILL don't see much (if any) change in your situation.
You may feel confused, hurt, frustrated, and picked on. Thoughts like these might start to cycle through your being, shaking your faith to the core:
- What have I done to deserve this?!
- Why won't He answer me?!
- Why are there only tiny changes?!
- Why is He allowing this to happen?!
- Is evil really going to be allowed to win?!
These aren't just negative thoughts. These are serious spiritual, emotional, and mental blows that hurt in a way no mortal can. This is our Creator we are thinking about. Our Maker. Our Father. And we feel like He is either not caring that we are being hurt or is okay with our destruction!
has HAS NOT abandoned you.
Fellow believers may say to go to the Word, immerse yourself in praise, and remind us that His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts, His time is not our time. Our lives are like the blink of an eye to Him.
But it's hard to praise when you feel so bad!
It's hard to understand when we feel like we are doing everything we should be doing. Repenting, fasting, praying, praising.
Sometimes the only thing we can do during these seasons is deliberately find things to be grateful for. Every small thing you can find to stand in gratitude over is going to help!
- The ability to smell and taste the delicious comfort of your morning coffee.
- The ability to hear the melodic sound of your kids laughing and the chirping birds.
- The ability to see the gorgeous color of the sunrise or sunset.
Try to find as many little things to be grateful for throughout the day and you will start to feel your happiness, your faith, and your hope coming back. The more intentional you can be about it, the more you deliberately focus your efforts on this exercise, the faster you will start to feel a difference.
It may not make an immediate change in your situation but it will make a big difference in how you experience it.
